Andrew Waddell,
Chief Operations Officer

As COO, Andrew is responsible for Proximity’s operational health, including defining and implementing the future model of the agency. Having joined Proximity in 2008 to run the Volkswagen account, Andrew went on to head up the 80-strong Client Service department, before being promoted to COO in 2016. He also runs several key accounts – SSE, John Lewis, Guide Dogs and the Volkswagen Group.

At work

Since joining his first agency in 2000, Andrew has experienced a variety of sectors – from automotive and FMCG, to retail and utilities. He’s worked on three of the biggest automotive brands in Europe: Mercedes-Benz and Lexus, before ultimately joining Proximity to run Volkswagen. His two client-side secondments, at Avis and Sky, taught him real empathy for client pressures and this strongly influences his approach to Client Service at Proximity. Career highlights include several high-profile pitch wins; Sky, John Lewis and SSE, as well as retaining the TV Licensing business in 2018.

At play

With two young sons at home, most of Andrew’s time is spent throwing, hitting and kicking balls. When there’s down time from this, he vents his competitive side on the squash court, his spiritual side on his surf board and his creative side in the garden. When there’s down time, that is.
